Tilpat Dham: The Sacred Abode and Samadhi of Sant Baba Surdas
Located in the historic village of Tilpat, the Surdas Baba Mandir is more than just a place of worship—it is a spiritual sanctuary. Known for its association with the Radha Ballabh sect, this temple marks the spot where the modern saint, also known as Kishori Sharan Ji, chose to settle and spread his divine message.
1. The Legend of the “Prakat”
The modern history of the temple began in 1931 when Baba Surdas first appeared near a local pond called Bansi Wale Ka Talab. [4]
- Arrival: He was first seen by a local resident named Shri Kharakiya, carrying only a stick, a bag with a Panchmukhi Shankh (conch), and a flute (bansi).
- The Healing Presence: At the time, the village was suffering from a strange affliction where many young women were becoming widows. Baba gave the villagers a sacred “Maha Mantra” which is still chanted today: “Shri Radha Ballabh, Shri Hari Vansh, Shri Vrindavan, Shri Van Chand”.
2. Architecture and Sacred Spaces
The temple complex at Tilpat is characterized by its serene atmosphere, often compared to the “Banke Bihari” vibe of Vrindavan.
- The Samadhi Sthal: This is the most sacred part of the complex, housing the mortal remains of the saint who passed away on the day of Raksha Bandhan in 1979.
- Bansi Wale Mandir: Dedicated to the deities Shri Kishori Ballabh Lal Ji, whose idols were established by the saint himself.
- Key Features: The site includes a hut and a well-constructed by Baba Surdas during his years of penance.

Life at Tilpat Dham revolves around constant devotion and seasonal festivities.
- Weekly Mela: Every Tuesday, the temple hosts a local fair that attracts thousands of devotees seeking blessings.
- Annual Perikrama: A massive 30 km long pilgrimage (perikrama) is organized annually, passing through several nearby villages like Palvali and Wazirpur where Baba had established other smaller shrines.
- Akhand Kirtan: The temple is famous for its continuous devotional singing and “Shri Maha Bhagwat Saptah” events.
